7 Easy Ways to Make Your Tires Last Longer

7 Easy Ways to Make Your Tires Last Longer

Even though tires are the lowest part of a car, they are in fact a highly essential part as they are the one that “carries” you and your passengers along the trip. The distance is a major factor on how long the tires last. However, it also depends on how the driver takes care of the tires. To make your tires last the longest, here are 7 easy tips you can follow:

1. Fill the right amount of air.

Fill air to your tires in the amount suggested in the manual. If the tires you’re using aren't of the original size that comes with the car, you should consult accredited tire producers or tire dealers for the proper air amount that should be filled. And don’t forget to fill your spare tires 3-4 pounds more than usual and adjust air pressure to normal when in use.

2. Check the air pressure regularly.

Check your tires once a week or every time before taking a trip. The tires should be checked while still cool. Heated tires aren’t reliable since the air pressure is higher than normal.

3. Rotate your tires.

Rotate your tires as soon as your car hits the first 10,000 km. If you rotate between the front and rear wheels, make sure to adjust the right tire pressure since the tire pressure of the front and rear wheels are different.

4. Have wheels balanced.

If all wheels are unbalanced, it can cause vibration during the ride. Unbalanced tires can also affect longevity of the tires and suspension system, as well as your driving comfort.

5. Align your wheels.

Easy way to check if your wheels are misaligned or not: try to let go of your steering wheel while driving in a straight lane. If the car is shaking, it means your wheels are misaligned, which will be resulting in distorted tires afterward.

6. Choose the right tires.

Before buying tires, consider your most driving circumstances first, whether you often ride on a smooth road in the city, rough road in the countryside or wet road like in the rainy southern part of Thailand. Buying the right tires will increase longevity and driving safety.

7. Mind your driving habits.

Avoid taking a sudden start, brake, and turn, getting over the curb, hitting the sidewalk, and not avoiding holes, rocks, or other obstacles on the road. Bad driving habits can wear out your tire treads.
