Simple Tricks to Spot Leaks on the Roof
Thunderstorms are damaging houses and buildings in many areas at the moment. Roof is one of a house’s most critical parts--and a problematic one if it doesn't receive good care. So, here are some simple techniques to spot leaks on your roof.
1. Check from the outside.
This is the most basic tip--checking the roof from the outside of your house. Check if there’s any open or broken tile, making sure that the ridge cap is close to every roof tile underneath, and that the gutter is close to the roof border. If you spot anything wrong, fix them as soon as possible. If a roof tile is broken, replace it with a new one. But if the roof is already old, you can consider changing the whole lot.
2. Look for the light underneath an attic.
This tip requires careful attention. Climb to the attic to see if there is a light shine through the roof. If there is, that means your roof is leaky. For those having an open spot or a service panel, finding watermarks is the only way to locate the leaks.
3. Check your ceiling.
Another easy way is to look at the ceiling--better choose the ceiling of the highest floor. Look for watermarks at the edge of the ceiling or check if there's any marks on the ceiling, and mark them using pencil or take pictures and show them to your handyman.
