Does Travel Insurance Cover Flight Delay Due to Storm?

Does Travel Insurance Cover Flight Delay Due to Storm?

The weather is quite erratic these days. Also, tropical storm Noul is striking in Thailand. For air travel, storms are the most dangerous weather condition of all. Therefore, flight delay is the problem that often occurs during the stormy season. Yes, flight delay can be a pain in the neck, but you just have to deal with it to avoid unfortunate events.

So, most travel insurance buyers usually ask: What are the conditions for the claim? Do other reasons also apply? Let’s have a look.

The coverage applies immediately if the trip has been delayed for at least 8 consecutive hours. For international trips, it applies when the delay is up to 6 hours (or as described in the policy.) The reason for the delay are as follows:

  1. Adverse weather conditions which delay your trip on planes, trains, or ships.
  2. Malfunction or damages of the transport, including planes, trains, or ships.
  3. Transport workers protests or strikes which cause delay on your trip on plane, train, or ship. You are required to show proof of the delay that includes duration and cause.

These causes are definitely eligible for the coverage.

If your trip is delayed and you are eligible for the claim, you need to claim your benefits within 30 days and send the required documents to facilitate the claiming process. Otherwise, contact your insurance company’s call center or claim your benefits online.

Documents required for the claim include:

● Flight certificate

● Flight ticket

● Boarding Pass
